How do I find a therapist?

If you decide you would like or require the guidance of a physical or occupational therapist in purchasing your walker, you may obtain a therapist in a few different of ways.

How do I find a therapist?
  • Your family doctor or medical specialist may provide a referral to a therapist. Depending on your circumstances, your physician may provide a referral to:
    1) a Home Care agency that sends therapists to your home; or
    2) an outpatient facility.
These therapists are often free of charge.
  • The store where you choose to purchase your walker may have a list of therapists who are willing to provide assessment and training services. There is usually a fee for this service.
  • The National Association for Occupational Therapists provides an “OT Finder” Service at http://www.otworks.ca/otfinder.cfm
  • The Canadian Physiotherapy Association provides a “Find a Physiotherapist” Service at http://www.physiotherapy.ca
  • Many Associations that focus on one type of disease or disability may keep a roster of therapists who show a special interest in that particular field.
